A villa with a pool facing the sea, a finca among the vines, a village house with a terrace: renting a villa on the Costa del Sol means choosing the backdrop of your holiday. Provided you avoid the nasty surprises. Here is how I accompany you, from the search to the keys.
Where to rent a villa on the Costa del Sol?
It all depends on the mood you are after. East of Málaga, Nerja and the Axarquía offer hillside villas with sea views, a village pace and unspoilt coves. To the west, Marbella and Estepona concentrate the large villas with gardens, the golf courses and the beach clubs. In between, Benalmádena is ideal for a first stay, a quarter of an hour from the airport.
Craving altitude and silence? A house in Cómpeta or Frigiliana puts you thirty minutes from the beaches, among vines and olive trees. On the Costa Tropical, Almuñécar remains the most confidential address.
What I check before suggesting a villa
A well-framed photo does not tell the whole story. Before each proposal, I check what makes the difference once you are there:
- The orientation and real sunshine of the pool and terrace.
- Access: slope, parking, walking distance to the beach and shops.
- Child safety (fenced pool, stairs, balconies).
- Air conditioning, wifi, linen and kitchen equipment.
- Reviews, the reliability of the owner or agency, cancellation terms.
I then present two or three annotated houses, and you book directly with the owner: you stay in control, with no hidden intermediary.
How much does a villa cost, and when to book?
Prices can triple depending on the season: July-August and Easter are the most expensive, while May-June and September-October offer the best balance of price, weather and peace. For a villa with a pool in high season, book six to nine months ahead; off season, two to three months are enough. My article on when to visit the Costa del Sol helps you choose your moment.
And once you have the keys?
That is where my concierge service takes over. I welcome you at Málaga airport, have the house prepared before your arrival, deliver the beach essentials, water-sports gear or picnic basket, and organise cleaning and household linen during the stay. All that is left is to enjoy.
The accommodation search is included in my three collections; it also exists on its own, among my à la carte services.
Your questions, my answers
- Do you book the villa on my behalf?
- I search, check and advise; booking and payment are made directly with the owner, so that you keep all the guarantees of the contract. I can assist with the exchanges, including in Spanish.
- Do I need a car for a villa holiday?
- Most of the time, yes: the most beautiful villas are in the hills. I help you compare car rentals, and I organise your transfers if you would rather not drive.
- Do you offer child-friendly villas?
- Yes: secured pool, bedrooms on the same floor, cot and high chair, beach within walking distance. See also my guide to a family holiday in Andalusia.
